The lute used by a fake Jester candidate
A large, multi-string lute used by Paulus, the wizard-controlled Jester candidate. It is carved from a single piece of dark wood, origins unknown. When it is strung it seems to hum audibly with anticipation.
If you are not a bard, you can use fascinate as though you were a bard 3 levels lower than your current level.
if you are a bard, you get + 2 to your DC for fascinate, and can use it 4 rds a day for free.
Has no discernible downside. This is likely because the lute is only 1/2 complete (the strings having been removed from it), but may also be because it is a Wizard creation.
Dareth’s Garrote, used as a G string on Paulus’ Lute:
Give access to Dirge of Doom Bard ability.
Dirge of Doom (Su): A bard of 8th level or higher can use his performance to foster a sense of growing dread in his enemies, causing them to take become shaken. To be affected, an enemy must be within 30 feet and able to see and hear the bard’s performance. The effect persists for as long as the enemy is within 30 feet and the bard continues the performance. The performance cannot cause a creature to become frightened or panicked, even if the targets are already shaken from another effect. Dirge of doom is a mind-affecting fear effect, and it relies on audible and visual components.
If you already have access to Dirge of Doom (i.e. when you level up to 8), it increases the range to 60 feet.
Additionally, you have Deathwatch, as per the spell, constantly active as long as you are holding the Lute
Finally, you can claim the departing life force of a dying target, as per the spell Death Knell. You can only have one instance/be gaining benefits from one casting of the spell at a time
